Wait, why is Texas playing South Carolina again?

This season, Texas will play 16 conference matches against 15 enemies at the conference. South Carolina is the only team that Longhorns will play twice.

Texas coach Vick Schaefer was asked how Texas attracted South Carolina as his opponent for home and home. He said that “from my understanding, the conference office obviously did it for television, so we are there.”

Schaefer said LSU is the team that Texas will play twice in the conference game next season. But he added that in addition to playing a conference game against South Carolina during their 2025-26 campaign, Longhorns will come across Gamecocks at a Thanksgiving tournament in Las Vegas, which also includes Duke and Ucla.

Schaefer has not come out of record against Dawn Staley

While drawing up a 433-206 record for 20 seasons as Chief Coach in Sam Houston, Mississippi and Texas, Schaefer received the best of many of his peers. However, the dawn of South Carolina is not one of those coaches that Schaefer has rights to boast.

In his career against Staley’s Gamecocks, Schaefer is 3-14. Two of these losses have been recorded since Schaefer arrived in Austin. However, Schaefer does not seem to be worried about his record against Staley, the former Virginia star and WNBA, who won 634 games and three national championships in 25 seasons in Temple and South Carolina.

“I don’t play against her,” Schaefer said. “It’s probably nice. She’s a much better player than I was in college. I was exhausted very quickly in junior college. She was playing.

Texas’ forecast against South Carolina

South Carolina. Texas will play better in Austin than last month in Colombia. But while one of the SEC does not prove them wrong, Gamecocks deserve the benefit of doubt in conference competitions.
