In response to national repression of immigration laws, local leaders convened an immigration seminar on Thursday night to discuss their consequences locally.

Renault Catherine Nans Police Chief emphasized the importance of community cooperation, saying: “How can we better help everyone understand how we can work together for partnership and make everyone safe in the Community.”

The Chief NANS explained that local law enforcement agencies did not arrest persons based solely on the status of their citizenship. “We leave these things to the federal authorities because it is their job. This is not something we have the power to do and this is not something we will follow,” she said.

Other local leaders, including Secretary of State Francisco Aguilar, members of the Renault Municipal Council and the commissioners of the Washo County, participated in the seminar. Participants received resources, including contact information about local legal representation for immigrants.
