Are you looking for a great way to spend some time every week with your teenager or with your whole family around the dinner table this spring? Consider joining the book group throughout the Seattle City Library, Seattle reads together, or as a family.

This year the choice of the book’s book is You are here: poetry in the natural world,Edited by American poet Laureate Ada Lemon. Atology of poetry, published in the association of the Congress Library, the book celebrates the deep connection of humanity with the natural world and the collective power of poetry. Reading the book begins next month.

Seattle of the Seattle Public Library Reads To create an anthology, Lemon invited 50 American poets to observe and reflect on their local landscape. The recommended poets include former laureate of American poet Joy Hargio; Pulitzer Awards Jericho Brown, Carl Phillips and Diane Suez; Winners of the Pen/Voelcker Victoria Chang and Rigobero Gonzalez Award; and poets in the region of Seattle Laura Yes’ and Cedar Sigo.

Whether you or your teenagers or other family members think of yourself as “poetry people”, you will probably find something to love and something to talk about in this accessible collection. The book invites readers (or listeners) to look at their relationship with nature, according to Stesha Brandon, the leader of the Literature and Humanities Program of the Library.

In the introduction of the book, Lemon sounds this idea: “I hope this anthology serves as a reminder that there is more time to plant trees, write poems, not just wonder on this planet, but suggest something back, offer something back together again. “

The Seattle Community programs will continue from late March in late May. The Seattle Public Library Foundation will host an event for a kick, with the participation of partners in the community involved in this year’s programming, on Wednesday, March 26 at 6:00 pm at the Central Library. Lemon will visit Seattle on May 16 and 17 to discuss the book of several events in the community. Check again for a full list of programs, dates and hours, as well as a SPL.org discussion guide.

As a second part of the project, entitled “You are here: Poetry in Parks”, the poems are installed on picnic tables in seven national parks across the country, including Mount Raunie National Park. On June 24, 2024, Lemon traveled to the park to dedicate the poem “The Most Gorn” by ARMMONS, which was installed outside the Jackson Visitor Center in the Mount Ray National Park.
