90th anniversary deals in The Chicken Shack – WAFB

Baton Rouge, La. (Wafb) – Chicken shed, an institution here in Baton Rouge, and on its 90th anniversary this month, the Delpite family hopes to gather the community around black history and some bone with good food.

Founded by Tommy Delpitis in 1935, the chicken shed is the oldest ever -working business of Baton Rouge. Tommy’s grandchildren sat with WAFB today.

“He had started a 35 -cents capital business, so it means that when he opened the register, he had 35 cents just when he opened the doors, so it started,” said Reinald Delpit.

Tommy’s son, Joe Delpitis, made his name in politics.

“He had a line around his house of people who were trying to get him to help his families during the day,” Delpite said.

“He was a state representative, Pro President, he did a lot for his community and to his men,” said Doug Smith.

Its impact on the community is still bleeding in the chicken shed.

Joe Doug and Reinald’s grandchildren tell me that this is still a family affair.
