80 plus degrees in February? Is not uncommon for northern Texas – Kera News

North Texas could see almost record high temperatures on Saturday, but the 84 -degree estimated time is not uncommon for February.

Monique Sellers, a meteorologist at the Fort Worth National Meteorological Service, said fluctuations like this were normal.

Last February, NWS registered high 96 degrees on February 25, 1904, and last year temperatures reached 94 degrees on February 26th.

“You’re starting to think about February still as a winter month and technically, it is still the case,” she said. “But in Texas, winter has some widespread distribution for what you can see.”

North Texas has observed its share since February maximums in the 1980s and even 90s in recent years.

The area could see an approximately 30-degree decrease in temperatures on Sunday as a cold front moved north. About 54 degrees Sunday is projected on Sunday.

“In particular February and March start to feel like a transitional month,” the sellers said. “You see that these cold fronts pass every time, drop the temperatures down.”

She said that the recent warm weather does not mean that the area will experience more moist or dryer.

“It’s a lot in line with how the climate actually works,” she said.
