TODAY: Nevada Day observed with family fun, state and local offices closed – News3LV

Friday marks Nevada Day, when the state recognizes its admission to the Union and its 160th anniversary.

Nevada became the 36th state on October 31, 1864, and the Silver State celebrates Nevada Day on the last Friday of October each year.

The holiday means all state, county and city offices are closed on Friday. There are also no classes for Clark and Washoe County Public Schools.

Federal offices remain open, meaning services such as mail delivery will continue as usual on Friday.

Southern Nevada’s two pro hockey teams will play special morning home games for the occasion. The Henderson Silver Knights will play the San Jose Barracuda at 11 a.m. at the Lee Family Forum while Vegas Golden Knights drop the puck at 3:00 PM against the Ottowa Senators at T-Mobile Arena.

Nevada’s newest hockey team, the Tahoe Knight Monsters, will also play a night game against the Jacksonville Icemen at the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Stateline.

AREA15 will celebrate Nevada Day with a family-friendly Tricks and Treats Event. in more than a dozen locations. There will be a costume parade, karaoke, face painting and a flash mob thriller.

Springs Preserve will host Nevada Day Celebration 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free to Nevada residents with valid ID, and no reservations are required.

Activities will include Nevada Ghost Town Storytime, Gold Panning, State Insect Craft and Pub-Style Trivia.
