Las Vegas, Nev. (FOX5) – days after a private school serving neurodyver students, they were expelled, they found a new, temporary home.
On Wednesday, we introduced you to Acton Academy Red Rock and how the dispute who has to pay for the mildew removal led to their expulsion and uncertainty for dozens of students.
Now that the future focuses.
The founder of Acton Academy Rock Rock Amy Novak gave FOX5 a tour of their new landing spot by the end of the school year.
She says all 61 students can stay together, which is a huge victory after it was not clear whether or not they would have to separate.
“We had so many wonderful, amazing people who said,” We have this space here that you can use, we have this space here that you can use, “says Novak.
Novak says the student’s family has offered the perfect space to meet their needs.
“We looked at him and we’re like” Oh God, yes, “Novak says.
The students of the school learn in different ways, with ages from kindergarten to high school. Therefore, Novak says they need separate spaces.
In high school, high school and elementary school are grouped together, but unlike traditional schools, they do not use levels of grades or letters.
“We do not give a degree of letter, instead you work for your mastery because it is not tied to time,” she says.
Novak says students also manage themselves. Each age group or studio votes who they want to represent them in the council where students of different ages gather to solve problems.
“Where they apply their own, whatever system. Our system changes every year because our group changes every year and what they have learned go with them, “she says.
As for next year, Novak says they are still looking for their permanent home.
She is currently saying that they are focusing on her convening of this building, doing exercises to build a team until she feels at home again.
