AP staff shakes to cover the tragic collision in the middle in Washington – ap.org

AP employees in and around Washington have already fought a historic news cycle at the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second term when a word appeared late on January 29 that the plane was near the Washington Reagan National Airport.

Although the degree of the incident was not immediately clear, AP journalists in all formats quickly turned their attention to the unfolding tragedy. Video and photos teams have been mobilized to enter positions in and around the airport and along the Potomak River – there is no small task, given the massive emergency reaction, which is a complex trip in the area.

The first AP News Alert moved to 21:26, with the first text history, posting less than three minutes later.

AP coverage has intensified throughout the night. In Wichita, Kansas, was a video team when it became clear that the trade flight participating in the crash was there. AP produced an emergency coverage in the next morning, providing live and images in an extremely challenging environment.

Beyond the breaking of the news, AP produces a schedule, visualizing how the collision unfolds and provides a quick investigation and reporting of businesses. This included a history that looks at the congested airspace that has long struck the area around the National Airport and the reflection of the impact of the crash on the ice skate community.

AP was live from an ice rink in Boston, where some of the victims were, capturing emotional reactions from members and providing access for subsequent coverage in the coming days.
