Claveland – Darius Garland says he wanted to stay in Cleveland, regardless of what happens to Donovan Mitchell, enough to have a conversation with Cavaliers’ brass to clear the air of any external noise that says otherwise.

Garland said on Monday’s media day at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse that he was often trying to adjust any external noise, but it was enough that he met with Coby Altman CAVS President.

“They spoke to Kobi and he was quite upset with it,” Garland said. “I told him I wanted to be here and he knew this too, so it wasn’t really a long conversation … I really don’t know [where the rumor came from]But it came out and it was definitely false. “

Darius Garland’s contracts, Donovan Mitchell keep the Cleveland security in the long run

Garland still has four years in his current deal, which continues in the 2027-28 season. Mitchell, in one of the largest summer deals in the NBA, given the possible consequences, signed an extension that will keep it in Cleveland for at least the next three seasons and probably four depending on the player’s option.

“It’s super cool to see a star like him, engaged in this team,” Garland told Mitchell’s contact extension. “He loves this city. We are super excited to bring him back and he is happy to be here.”

He cemented the background of Mitchell and Garland for the long run.

“We’ve been together for three years and we have a jump every year,” Garland said. “Many people do not see what we have outside the court – we have a real relationship outside the court … this is my brother.”
