Wilmington Bushfire burns 20 percent of SA – ABC News National Park

Bush Fire in the Flinders’ ranges in southern Australia has destroyed 20 percent of the remarkable national park so far and continues to burn.

SA Country Fire Service said the Wilmington Scrub fire, about 3.5 hours north of Adelaide, burned 3850 hectares with difficult Monday access.

CFS region four regional links Cindy McCurt said that although it came into its fourth day, the fire continued to burn and could break the limitation lines.

“There is every opportunity for this fire to get out of the park,” she said.

CFS said the fire was illegal and was expected to burn by the end of the week.

While the fire was not a threat to life or property, CFS has issued advice for advice on people in the area to monitor the conditions and be informed.

The remarkable Mount National Park is 18,000 hectares and a popular camping site in the region, including the well -known Aligator Gorge.

Makukurt said that the “difficult” terrain of the park has made the ground fire extinguishers a challenge, so air operations are important.

CFS says locals will notice an increase in aviation activity as the aircraft have the fire department to limit the fire that spreads past control lines.

“It’s not easy to just put a fire truck against a fire and actually put water on it.

“In those places where you can’t really enter, they [aerial support] can help slow the spread.

“It’s a goat to want a better word, so it’s not safe to put people there on foot.”

Ms. McCurt said that burning on the back of previous years “certainly helped” keep the raging fire, but the CFS left some areas to burn on purpose.

“We need to burn some of these fuel loads,” she said.

“If we have not done some back burns, especially in this southwest, southeast, … those fuels that sit beyond the burned line in the pocket of the fiery platform are able to burn.

“The intensity of fire is so much that we end with fires that notice above the detention lines.”

CFS says during these burns the community may notice more smoke, flames and heat, especially at night.

Local support

A CFS firefighter suffered a burn injury while fighting the flame on Monday and still in hospital, receiving medical treatment.

“We talked to the firefighter and he is doing as well as he could be expected,” said G -Jia McCurt.

“He is in a really good place and we are really happy with it.”

Fire fire units are helping the day and night on the fiery platform as of Wednesday, and D -Jia McCurt said the local community was “absolutely wonderful”.

“And also, the remarkable board of the mountain, they were incredible during this shootout.

“We are well aware that we have even had the CEO to move a truck for us.”

CFS said it believes the fire was caused by a lightning strike on Monday.
