LUBBOCK, Texas (NEWS RELEASE) – Work on a maintenance project to replace bridge joints and perform concrete deck repairs is being moved to the eastbound Route 289 (Northbound I-27) direct link bridge. Beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, crews will begin moving concrete barriers to the direct link bridge and reopen the Indiana Avenue bridges.
The direct link bridge will be closed to traffic from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. while barriers are moved and traffic is diverted to 82nd Street to connect with northbound I-27. Drivers should anticipate traffic delays and are urged to be alert and cautious when approaching work zones.
Once the barrier is in place, the right lane of the direct link bridge will be closed to traffic for approximately two weeks.
The work is part of a $1.7 million maintenance project to replace bridge joints and repair decks and concrete on various bridges in Lubbock. Repairs to each location on the bridge are expected to take approximately 4-6 weeks to complete; if time permits. The project is scheduled to be completed in December 2025.
