A 28-year-old Cuban man has been arrested in Hyali after being accused of causing a friend’s death by accidentally shooting his firearm. The incident took place at the end of last year, in particular on December 14, 2024, at a home where the accused resides.

According to the arrest report, the man identified as Jengers Antolin Espinosis was with several friends in the rented efficiency when he accidentally fired his firearm. When the authorities arrived at the scene, they found a woman seriously injured at the neck. Witnesses reported that the victim was his girlfriend, whom the defendant accidentally shot.

Police officers at Hialea responded to the emergency call, and after their arrival, Espinosis turned to investigators, admitting they were responsible for the shooting. Despite the efforts of the rescue team, the woman was transported to the Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she unfortunately died.

During the appearance of the defendant’s court, the prosecutor’s office said that Espinosis was collaborating with the investigation. Witnesses have confirmed that the group is enjoying a moment in the common area of ​​the house when Espinosis stepped out of his room with the gun in his hand. At that moment, a shot was heard and the victim fell to the ground and bleed.

Espinoza is facing a number of unintentional firearm murder, with a guarantee of $ 15,000. As part of the conditions of his release, he is forbidden to use, carry, buy or own a firearm.

There were no other witnesses at the scene of the crime, but a neighbor managed to talk to her and respond to the incident. She described the neighborhood as “super quiet”, suggesting that incidents like this emphasize the importance of home security and firearms.

Experts in this area make recommendations to avoid arms at home. It is assumed that if a weapon is purchased, it must be provided and stored in safety. In addition, it is recommended that if there are children in the home, the weapon should be stored in high places and beyond their reach.
