Letters to the editor – the enemy inside, books, Irving ISD, Dallas Municipal Council, Mavs – The Dallas Morning News

The enemy is here

In the last two weeks, there have been so many unpleasant actions and statements from the new administration that it is huge. Thank you for continuing to do your best in The Dallas Morning News To cover what is important in a direct, impartial and intellectually honest way.

I’m an adult (barely) to remember the era of Richard Nixon. My mother often said then that this was the enemy inside, you have to be the most worrying. Only now do I really understand that more true words have never been spoken.

I can’t even start imagining what she would say if she was alive to see the screaming attacks on democracy and the rule of law, with which about 50% of the population looks just good. I realized that there were legitimate concerns about things like economy and immigration, but the greatest and most frightening care was the enemy inside.

“Nobody is reading books”

Re: “Covid is not why children can’t read – although we have not disgusted it, even more points in technology data,” Sunday editors.

The Thomas Jefferson high school class since 1964. Recently celebrated their 60th gathering, and several of us received a special permission to tour the building on Saturday, led by a graduate of 2024.

TJ was almost completely destroyed by Tornado in 2019, but it was fully restored with the latest facilities-yarns and new and beautiful.

When we reached the library, I noticed that there were very few books on the shelves and I asked our guide why this was. She said, “No one is reading books anymore.”

So, no, Covid is not entirely guilty of low reading results.

Spying, in the land of free

Re: “Abbott wants a regional probe-isd transgender Discosition, filmed on the video camera of the video”, January 31 Metro & Business Story.

I find the direction in which our country is directed to the very scary. In this story, the governor called for “Criminal and Civic Investigations to Irving ISD after a hidden camera” and “Undercover journalist” spoke with district staff. Where are we in the United States, spying on each other? Spying on transgender sports?

Whether you are

So sad and scary that it happens and is encouraged in what was the land of freedom. (For what it’s worth, I’m personally not for transsexual students who play sports teams that are aligned with their identity, and I am a Christian.)

Private schools as companies

Re: “Readers are discussing school vouchers for Texas,” Sunday letters.

In all the opinions, professionals on the topic of vouchers expressed, I have not yet seen one question, so I will ask him: Does anyone really think that if all their parents are given $ 10,000 per student to pay a private school, said Personal order schools will not raise $ 10,000 a student? After all, we are dealing with the trade here. If you can’t afford $ 11,000, how can you afford $ 21,000?

Not to Blue Crew

The outbreak above the approach of Donald Trump/Elon Musk to the government (my money) that walks in business is desperate. Who controlled the budget? All these decades in toilet seats of $ 1,000 and other folklore for government abuse are not sunk, I guess.

I want to support the government. I do not want to lose hard money on ridiculous insignificant questions. Yes, USAID has to live. No, it should not support anything that is not medical or habitat.

Maintenance in the classroom, yes; Indoctrination and subjection of common sense, issue. Didn’t America just say no to the blue crew in the last election?

Thank you for real news

Re: “Why the news Used “supposedly” by Stephen Buckley, opinion on Wednesday.

Kudos and thank you! This column is a wonderful explanation and example of real news against rumors. There is no hysteria. Just a calm review of the levels and reliable news reporting.

Please continue the good work.

Embrace new ideas

Re: “8 years is sufficient in the City Council – the longtime member must adopt the voters’ decision on the restrictions on the term,” Monday.

The recent discussion on the withdrawal of minimums for parking in Dallas emphasizes the importance of imposing restrictions on the duration and the need for new perspectives. The cities are thriving when they accept fresh ideas, and one of the most pressing problems requiring new thinking is transportation.

Gen Z drives less than previous generations. Economic problems, environmental awareness and desire for passable, transit communities, shape their preferences. This change presents the opportunity for Dallas to create a city that will be attracted to the talent for economic development.

The dense, transit-oriented development attracts young professionals, increases local business activity and makes cities more competitive. The recent success in places like New York, where Gen Z migration has led to free rates to historically low levels, proves that patency and accessibility are fueling economic growth.

Meanwhile, Dallas risks stagnation by adhering to an outdated car -oriented infrastructure, which maintains suburban expansion. Even the local mobility plans set out by the North Central Texas Council of Governments admit that the expansion itself will not maintain future growth. In order to adopt these advanced policies, we must allow young people to enter the government.

No more mavians for me

As for the Luke Doncic trade, I watched my last Mavericks game.

At least Jerry is off

For all MAVS fans: as sad as what they did with Luka Doncic, it could have been worse. They could sell the Jerry Jones team.
