Mount Pleasant Football Academy registered another draw in their first home match of the Jamaica Premier League (JPL) football competition on Thursday as Waterhouse Football Club provided a stern test in a 0-0 draw at the Drax Hall Sports Complex in St Ann’s.
Waterhouse are top of the table with 14 points, while Mount Pleasant are fifth with 10 points.
“I’m disappointed with the result and the performance,” said Mount Pleasant FC head coach Theodore “Tapa” Whitmore.
“Again, the draw is tough but we have to regroup and come again. We dominated possession but something was missing in the final third of the pitch. In terms of how we were able to score, we didn’t take any risks this afternoon in trying to move the ball forward, we have to get numbers in front of the opposition goal,” explained Whitmore. “But we must move on.”
Continuing, he said: “Sunday’s game here against Tivoli is a quick turnaround. We have to look at some of the things we did and what we can improve on when we go into the game.”
Waterhouse FC assistant coach Damien Gordon said it was a good game overall.
“We’re going to grow from here and get better. I think we played excellently in difficult moments. I think we should have finished those two chances that we got. When they had the ball, we were very brave in how compact we were. Our goalkeeper , who is our captain, was excellent,” Gordon said.
“In our next game we are looking forward to being tougher in front of goal. We can do a lot better defensively,” he added.
Although Mount Pleasant outplayed the visitors, they failed to convert a number of clear chances.
Waterhouse also got their fair share of chances to steal a win in a hostile environment but came up short.
A golden opportunity opened up for Mount Pleasant in the 63rd minute with a penalty. Daniel Green took the spot kick but Waterhouse keeper Kemar Foster made the save.
Green was able to break through Waterhouse’s tight defense and had another attempt on goal, but Foster saved to keep the net clean.
