The Lilly Glaubach Act aims to help resolve deadly blows in Florida-WCTV

Tallahassee, Florida (WCTV/Gray Florida Capital Bureau)-Florida strikes have increased by 40% over the last decade, according to new data from the Safety and Motor Vehicles in Florida.

With many of those who go unresolved, the state legislative body hopes to turn this trend.

“The hit and running in this country are just outrageous,” said Sarah Alexander.

Alexander knows firsthand. Her 13-year-old daughter Lili Glabah was killed in 2022 while taking a home by a school bike in Sarasota County. The driver has never stopped until he reached two counties.

“The car had our daughter’s blood and her hair in her. But unfortunately, it was told that a tree had fallen, “said Paul Alexander, Lily’s step -dad.

FLHSMV told over 97,519 strikes with a hit in 2024, 238 are deadly.

Senator Joe Gruts, (R) Sarassota, insists on a new law called Lily.

This will require body stores to receive a police report and to place vehicles offered in a monitoring database for the police.

“The problem is that this problem does not go away. How you can resolve those cases that are completely out of control, “said Senator Gruts.

“This is not really intrusive to people. “Hey is the vehicle, this is where the damage is and that is their name,” said Sarah Alexander.

In the case of Lily, a good Samaritan took a picture of the car and the driver and handed it to the police. Now David Chang is serving a 15-year sentence for his death.

And now there is the potential that Lily’s heritage can save more lives.

“This tragedy could help other people avoid never understand what happened to their child, the parent, their loved one,” said Paul Alexander.

Body stores told the Florida Grace Bureau that they are already working with the police when they suspect a crime has been committed because they can usually understand the damage.

The committee has not been scheduled for this proposal so far.

The legislative session in 2025 begins on March 4. So far, over 470 bills have been filed.
