Louisiana group sued over federal inmate with rare strain of TB, problems responding – WBRZ

BATON ROUGE — One of the parties sued by the state of Louisiana over a federal inmate with a rare strain of tuberculosis being admitted to the general population of Basil and Monroe has filed a response to the lawsuit.

The GEO Group, which operates Basile Immigration and Customs Enforcement is one of 12 parties involved in the Louisiana case.

As to GEO’s role in the complaint, the state of Louisiana alleges that GEO allowed the inmate to be released into the general population without air isolation, resulting in approximately 174 detainees at the Basile facility being exposed to tuberculosis.

GEO responded to the allegations by saying they acknowledge the allegations, but release to the general population is based on medical clearance from a pulmonologist.
