Obituary

Wanda Kay Martin, 86 -year -old, born in Cleveland, Tennessee entered the heavenly gates to be with her Lord and Savior, on February 1, 2025. She was preceded by her parents Lloyd A. Hicks and Nada Hicks, as well as Your beloved husband, James Herdon Martin, Jr. She survived her two children: James Martin III (Meredith) and Karen Rhodes (Bill), her four grandchildren Courtney Meix (Zahari), Chandler Ansel (Jordin), Nicholas Martin, Caroline Martin and three great grandchildren, Addisyn Meeks Meeks and Rylan Ansell. Also, she survived her sisters and her brother; Gail Dennison, Nada S. Hicks (Thomas) and Lloyd S. Hicks. Kay, as she loved to be called, graduated from high school in 1956 from Bradley Central High in Cleveland, Tennessee. From there, she continued at a Georgia college at Berry College, where she met with a soulmate and was part of Gamma Sorority Delta Kappa. She received her educational degree from the Technical University of Tennessee and began pursuing her career. Kay and her husband moved to Alachua, Florida in 1966, and decided that Tennessee was calling them at home a year later, where she continued her career in Hamilton County in Chatanuga. In 1984, they moved their family to Chesapike, Virginia, where she taught at Great Bridge Junior High since 1985, until she was asked to teach and be the head of the Hikori High School Department. She taught a 9th grade land science until she retired in 2012. Kay has been a member of the Baptist Church Great Bridge for more than 35 years, where she was also part of the class of Sunday schools in Amin. She was involved in many clubs such as the Christian Women’s Club and the Pilot Club, voluntarily from her time after retiring from teaching. If you knew Kay, you knew how much he loves to read, write in your diary, travel with your family and all your friends and you are most of you. She was a real inspiration, a strong believer, a teacher, an amazing wife, mother and friend who loved with all her heart. She will be missed by her family and friends. The review will be held at 1:00 pm, followed by service at 2:00 pm on February 7, 2025 at the Baptist Church Great Bridge. There will be a reception to follow for the whole family and friends. She will be privately buried on a later date.
