Oct. 25 — New Mexico boxers Kathryn Lindenmuth and Jocelyn Olayo-Munoz are locked and loaded for their fights on Saturday.
In Pueblo, Colo., Olayo-Muñoz, an amateur from Las Cruces with 15 national titles under her belt, drew India’s Chanchal Chaudhary for her opening 105-pound bout at the 2024 World Junior Boxing Championships (under-19). .
The match between Olayo and Munoz is part of a session scheduled for 15:00 on Saturday. All bouts are scheduled for streaming, available at usaboxing.com.
In Commerce, Calif., Lindenmuth, a Bosque Farms pro with a 6-3 record (two KOs), weighed in Friday at 103 pounds for his scheduled six-round bout against Guadalupe “Lupita” Medina (7-0, two KOs). from Maywood, California.
The card, headlined by a 12-round featherweight bout between Los Angeles’ Omar Cande Trinidad (16-1, 13 KOs) and Argentina’s Hector Andres Sosa (17-2, nine KOs), is scheduled to air on UFC Fight Pass, starting at 7 p.m
Chaudhary, Olayo-Muñoz’s opponent, has international experience. In March, she defeated boxers from Mexico, Kazakhstan and Russia to reach the final in her category at the World Youth Boxing Cup Adriatic Pearl tournament in Budva, Montenegro.
Chaudhary then defeated an Indian compatriot for the title.
Olayo-Muñoz will make his international debut in the tournament, which features boxers from 30 countries.
The tournament is single elimination. If Olayo-Muñoz beats Chaudhary, she will advance to Tuesday’s semifinals against Leah Anderton of Australia or Yu Miata of Japan.
Lindenmuth will enter the ring Saturday as a significant underdog against Medina, a 20-year-old prospect who will be fighting just a few miles from his hometown.
But Lindenmuth, a 35-year-old mother of three, has battled far tougher competition — former world champion Kim Clavell of Canada and North Las Vegas, Nevada’s Yadira Bustillos, who is now 10-1.
