Jimmy Harkishin, who plays Dev Allahan and has participated in some large storylines over the years, will pack his bags and head to India in upcoming scenes.

Dev will understand that his aunt Gita has fallen and will head to India to be with her family.

He will leave behind his partner Bernie – played by Jane Hazgrove – and his children Aadi and Asha, The Mirror reports.

They add, “When he tells Bernie about the news, she tells him that she wants to go with him – but does she?

“Meanwhile, Aadi was responsible for the kebab store and the corner store, but when will Dev return?”

A coronation street spokesman confirmed that Dev would return to the soap in the spring and make a short break to make some trips.

Harkishin first joined the soap in 1999 and has been a consistent attachment in Weatherfield ever since.

Dev has been at the center of some large storylines in the last year, but he recently supported his partner Bernie while dealing with the devastating loss of his son Paul.

Paul died of motor neurons disease in sad episodes that were aired last year.
