BATON ROUGE – Police said a man arrested Thursday in connection with a September shooting was paid $2,000 to kill the victim.
The Baton Rouge Police Department arrested 18-year-old Anthony Torreganohayes on Thursday. He is accused of shooting and killing 44-year-old Johnny Green on September 13.
Torreganhayes was arrested Oct. 1 on various charges before police learned he was paid to kill Green, BRPD spokesman Darren Ahmed said.
“It so happened during the investigation on October 1 when he was booked, detectives were able to obtain some of the evidence that linked him to the crime and a separate call from a Crimestoppers alert,” Ahmed said.
Torreganohayes allegedly told a witness that he was paid two thousand to kill Green.
“It’s definitely not something that’s that common, unfortunately, (under) these types of circumstances we have to accept it as a reality, it happens,” Ahmed said of the hit-and-run scheme.
Torreganohayes was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on charges of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
The man who hired Torreganohayes is still at large, Ahmed added.
“Whether someone puts a big number or a small number, the fact remains that someone was willing to pay someone to commit a crime that they themselves did not want to commit,” Ahmed said.
