Long wall extraction returns to the area around the Interstate 70 near the border of West Virginia-Prestille, which means that motorists should expect delays while traveling along this section of the highway.

The Ministry of Transport in Pennsylvania creates restrictions on the lane and reduces the speed limit of the I-70 near the exit of West Alexander due to the expected undercoat in the area.

Two of the interstate in both directions between the state line of the West Virginia and the mile along the fork of West Alexander will be moved to one lane and the speed is reduced to 45 miles per hour, starting Wednesday for a long period of time.

Restrictions are applied in response to possible effects by Alliance Resource partners, LP and Tunnel Ridge, LLC Longway Mining Operations at Mine Tunnel Ridge in Donegal. The restrictions will exist for several weeks – without a certain end date – until the yield is completed and the conditions of the roadway allow normal traffic.

Similar restrictions have existed in the last years of the I-70 in West Virginia from the mining operation.

Along the roadway, monitors are installed to record the shortest movement in each direction. These remote data collection systems will notify the Washington County Maintenance Service and project engineers when a movement occurs.
