The Lubbock Civic Orchestra hosts a Halloween concert Tuesday night – Fox 34

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Everyone is invited to a free Halloween concert on Tuesday night, October 29, at Buddy Holly Hall.

The Lubbock Civic Orchestra has been performing for the City of Lubbock since 2018.

However, this is not their main job, just a team of people with a passion for music.

Ryan Smith, one of the conductors, says that’s what he likes about him.

“We have music educators, we have people who are professionals, we have some students,” Smith said. “It’s fun for us and it’s also just a time to get together and just enjoy each other’s company.”

Recent Texas Tech graduate Sierra Carlson says this orchestra has given her an opportunity to get back to what she loves.

“It was something that I pursued and loved during high school, and during my college years I wasn’t involved in music, and it was something that I really missed without that experience,” Carlson said. “So after graduating from Tech, it was something I really had to enjoy getting back into.”

Smith hopes the audience can see and hear all the hard work the orchestra has put into their performances.

“We would love for our audience members to just see the love and passion we have for making music,” Smith said. “These people don’t get paid; it is a volunteer to spread the love of great music, orchestral music to the community.

With the upcoming Halloween concert, the audience will have a special opportunity to get involved and maybe even find themselves on stage.

“So come out and see the concert; you will like it. Wear your best suits. From what I’ve heard, there’s a big competition for the best costume,” Carlson said.

Carlson encourages the community to come listen and have fun.

“You’ll hear your favorite movie scores from How to Train Your Dragon and Harry Potter, and it’s going to be a concert you won’t want to miss,” Carlson said.

The concert is at Crickets theater in Buddy Holly Hall with doors opening at 7pm.
