Authoring Action and The Dwelling present their fourth engagement, Voices from the Dwelling, which amplifies the voices of Winston-Salem’s homeless and precariously housed. Through the fourth series of author action creative writing workshops led by Nathan Ross Freeman and Lynn Rhodes in collaboration with local artists Tammy Baldwin Willard, Tiffany Thompson and Jeremiah “Jazz” Salter, The Dwelling authors have written monologues, poems, short stories and songs that give insight into the full personhood of people living on the fringes of our community, exploring themes of judgement, resilience, storms and grace.
Their stories challenge the stereotypes that exist about people experiencing homelessness and name the realities of systems that can unwittingly contribute to the oppressive qualities of homelessness—individually, culturally, and systemically.
Creative writing workshops give Voices from the Home participants an opportunity to showcase their literary talents that may have gone unrecognized until now. From powerful poetry and stories to poignant songs, it will be an evening that touches hearts and connects the audience and presenters personally.
Come on The apartment Sanctuary, 502 N. Broad St., for this powerful and profound commitment. There are two opportunities to participate: Thursday, Oct. 24 and Friday 25 October at 7pm Tickets are free, but please let us know you’re coming by signing up at:
