San Bernardino County Sheriff’s officials continue to investigate after a Victorville deputy shot and wounded a male suspect near the Victor Valley Mall.

Around 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, a deputy responded to the shopping center near Mall Boulevard and Petaluma Road in Victorville to assist security with an uncooperative man, sheriff’s officials said.

When the deputy approached the subject to detain him, the subject did not comply and fled on foot, authorities said. He then stopped and pointed a knife at the deputy, according to sheriff’s officials.

At that moment, the deputy fired and hit the suspect, who was later taken to a hospital for medical treatment. The deputy was not injured, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Department’s Special Investigations Unit also responded and took over the investigation, which is ongoing.

The male suspect has not been identified and remains hospitalized. The sheriff’s office did not release any other information about the incident.
