Powerschool, a state server for student information, has been violated, affecting several areas, including WS/FCS.
Winston-Salem, NC-Winston-Salem/Schools of Forsyte County (WS/FCS) were influenced by Powerschool’s data disturbance in early January. The area released the details that expose the full degree of violation on Wednesday, February 5.
A total of about 150,000 current and former WS/FCS students and approximately 28,000 current and former employees were influenced by data disturbance.
Of the 28,000 employees affected, 16,000 of them have stolen the number of social security. According to the district, no number of students was affected as the state does not collect this information.
Other data that has been violated include names, home addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers
The violation influenced those who had visited or worked in the district from 2014 until 2024.
Powerschool employees have said they provide two years of free protection of identity and service to monitor loans to those affected by the offense. If you have been affected, you can learn more about these services by clicking here.
WS/FCS said the violation is contained and is not expected to be public, but law enforcement authorities are monitoring the situation.
