Authorities identify the North Las Vegas officer killed in a shootout – Las Vegas Review -Journal

Authorities identify a police officer in North Las Vegas, killed in a shootout with a suspect on Tuesday as officer Jason Roskov, 46.

Corron’s Corronron service said on Wednesday that the suspect was Alexander Matisse, at the age of 25, who died from a firearm in the head. Roskov died of numerous firearms, according to the county.

Roskov’s career with the North Las Vegas Police Department lasted 17 years, according to a message on Wednesday of the department. He worked in the traffic department for several years before returning to Patrol last February.

Police said that when Roskov moved through these roles, he continued to “serve the same dedication, courage and professionalism that determine his career.”

“Will never be forgotten”

“Officer Roskov was more than a colleague, he was a friend, mentor and valuable member of our family of law enforcement,” the message said. “His victim will never be forgotten and his inheritance of service and courage will continue to inspire us all.”

Shortly after 4:00 pm Wednesday, Roskov’s body was taken from the Corrona’s office and placed in a white hearse while uniformed officers stood and greeted. Minutes of late procession of dozens of row vehicles led to a procession to the morgue in the center of Palma.

The officer’s body was then taken from the hearse in a casket, draped with the American flag and put inside. A steady flow of officers entered the morgue to give respect.

Roskov was Salt on Earth, said officer Philip Karas, President of the Association of Police officers in North Las Vegas, the Union representing North Las Vegas officials.

“Everyone around us has diminished because of his loss,” he said. “He will really light a room. He was a very funny individual, always uplifting those around him. It’s a shame for the people who just come, and the people we hire afterwards will never get to know him or learn from his experience. “

The department stated that Roskov was recognized by an example prize for service during his time in a movement department.

According to his page, LinkedIn has served in the US Air Force six years before becoming an officer from North Las Vegas.

Laurent McAllister, a retired North Las Vegas officer and a former president of the Union, described Roskov as a “very kind man.”

Roskov was “very passionate about his work” and never complained, even when he was driving around on a motorcycle without air conditioning on the 115th day, McAllister said.

“Firing Exchange”

Earlier, police said in a news message that employees responded to a report from a man aimed at a gun at someone else shortly before 2:15 pm Tuesday in the 4700 block at High Creek Drive, near Lone Mountain Road and Camino ALORTE S

The suspect, armed with a gun, ignores officers’ commands and fled, according to police. He turned to the officer, according to the release, “and an exchange of shooting arose.”

Police said the employee had been hit repeatedly and returned fire, hitting the suspect.

Both were taken to the University Medical Center. The suspect has also died.

The witness tells a shooting scene

Roy Brown heard police sirens near his neighborhood in northern Las Vegas on Tuesday afternoon and went out to make sure his grandson was not in difficulty.

“My grandson was just going to the park,” he said on Wednesday in front of his home at High Creek Drive. “When I got to the door knob, I just heard all the cracking sounds. I reached the edge of my garage and saw an officer on the ground in agony about 15 feet. “

The male officer struggled to get up and ask for help. Moments later, Brown said, more officers arrived at the scene.

Brown said another man, probably the suspect, was lying on the street about eight feet from the fallen officer.

“He was in a blood pool,” Brown said. “He seemed to be shot in the head.”

Brown and other residents described the area as typically quiet and muffled.

“I have lived here for 27 years and have never seen anything like that,” said Brown, who lives only in the place where the shootout has occurred.

Craig Gomez, who also lives in the neighborhood, said he had heard some disturbance in his backyard

“(The suspect) went through my yard and two more yards, I guess he met the officer,” Gomez said.

Other fallen officers

Other officers from North Las Vegas have died in and out of the execution of duty.

According to the memorial officer’s website, the last death of North Las Vegas officer is detective Chad William Park, who died on January 7, 2017 from injuries suffered in the main car accident the previous day.

In 1995, officer Raul Ellizodo was killed in the execution of the duty. The man who was fatally shot by him was killed by police.

And officer James Slagle was killed in a car accident in 1973 while chasing suspects in robbery.

Police said the public could donate to Roskov’s family through the injured police officer at Lexicon Bank, account number 1000010630.
