WS/FCS shares details about Powerschool Data Breaking – WXLV

The North Carolina Student Information System Provider, Powerschool, told the Winston-Salem schools last month that they were directed by an unauthorized party that receives access to sensitive information for students and employees.

Since then, Powerschool has confirmed that about 28,000 current and former WS/FCS employees and 150,000 current and former students have been affected by this violation of the data.

Victims include those who have worked or visited WS/FCS between 2014-2024. The school neighborhood says they need to contact Powerschool to protect identity or loan monitoring options.

WS/FCS says social security for about about about 16,000 employees have been stolen or violated. The social security number of students has not participated, as the state does not have this information.

Other personal information that is taken include: names, home addresses, email addresses and telephone numbers.

Powerschool says it will give the affected:

  • Two years of free identity protection services
  • Two years of free loan monitoring services

Powerschool also believes that this incident was containing, they do not think that any of the stolen data will be publicly shared.

The North Carolina Public Instruction Department (NCDPI) says WS/FCS could not prevent this violation, that this happened at Powerschool.
