UPPER EAST SIDE, New York – The Surrey, a luxury hotel on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, has reopened at East 76th Street and Madison Avenue.
The 16-story building features 70 guest rooms and 30 suites, all redesigned by Martin Brudnizki Design Studios. The apartments, some of which are inspired by the bridges of Central Park, feature “luxurious beds, sumptuous bathrooms” and even — for a price — “specialized butler service,” according to a press release.
Has interest been piqued? Interiors include Murano chandeliers and “bespoke furniture,” and aesthetic solutions throughout the hotel “add a rich, sensory dimension” to its public spaces.
Surrey includes a Miami club and restaurant, Casa Tua’s first New York location, offering Mediterranean cuisine to guests and patrons alike (Casa Tua also includes a lounge and private members’ club).
Surrey Spa – of course – joins the neighborhood as a wellness destination. The hotel has partnered with French lifestyle brand Sisley, known for its expertise in “phytocosmetology”, an alchemy of “the best plant-based ingredients [and] cutting-edge science.” Amenities include two treatment rooms, a sauna, a salt room, and a secluded outdoor terrace.
Managed by Corinthia Hotels and owned by the Reuben brothers, who reportedly acquired The Surrey for $150 million in 2021, the hotel was once home to Café Boulud, which closed in 2021. It had operated in Surrey since 1998.
Founded in Malta in 1968, Corinthia describes itself as a “pioneer” in a new genre of hotels – the so-called “Grand Boutique” – or a combination of grande dame and the energy of a Californian boutique lifestyle.
From the original Corinthia Palace in Malta to hotels in London, Lisbon and Budapest – as well as a new location on the Upper East Side – the company says it is currently developing properties in Rome, Brussels, Bucharest, Doha, Riyadh and a resort in the Maldives.
