More than 200 rally around Black Rep – Winston -Salem Chronicle Birthday

Powerful dance groups, poets, singers and spoken artists made their presence known on the annual holiday of Dr. Martin Luther King, junior, sponsored by the northern Carolian black repertoire company (NC Black Rep in Winston-Salem. More than 200 supporters have joined the celebration, carrying donations of durable groceries, ready to bless less lucky in the spirit of the community.

Brian McLaughlin serves as an emcee for the evening. The award -winning performer Brian Kager made the honor of preaching the speech “I have a dream”, which revealed as a sermon on Washington’s march.

Mclaghln also directed two historical exhibitions in the game that include the Civil Rights Act, The Freedom Riders, The Little Rock Arkansas Nine, Rosa Parks, the Residential Housing Act, Brown against the Education Council.

Point! The company and the technique conservatory awakened the crowd with its Billy Holiday’s “Strange Fruit” show. Their performance included movements from the genres of hip-hop, ballet, crane and jazz. They used red scarves to show the presence of blood flowing from lynches. The scene was covered with dynamic movement and emotional reactions.

The story of Lady Renee Andrews has joined the international dance experience in Monica and Jerome to present reverence on the late Nicky Giovanni. Andrews performed the poem “The Jin in the Jarcan”, and the dance group presented a dance transition to the words of the poem. The band danced on the song “Shepot” and closed with the Negro spiritual Wade in the Water.

The company for more vision was dressed in army camouflage, ready to offer an act of memory, a political statement for the many young people who were lost in the struggle for freedom. The background for their movement was “They really don’t care about us” by Michel Jackson. Before remembering every name, they invited the audience to “say his name, to say her name.” Some of the names they included in their roller included Ayana Jones, Sandra Bland, Imians Gray, Michel Brown, Emmet Til, Joan Cullen, Tommy Yansi, Redi Brooks, among many more.

Triad Dance, Tumble and Cheer opened the performance with cheers and dances that determined what Dr. King believed. They used their leadership skills to tell a touching story about King’s vision.

In the story of Alice Bitting’s spoken word, she entered the character of the Baptist Church on 16th Street, where four young African-American girls were bombed by Ku Klux Klan after Sunday school in 1963. This house witnessed hopes and dreams of People, for marriages, to home messages. Dignity decorated its lava. “However, on that fateful day, the church witnessed as God called Denise McNair, Addie May Collins, Carol Robertson and Cynthia Wesley Dom.” I’m sorry I couldn’t save you, “the church said.

Odario Torrence presented a statement of a spoken word for independence. Ciltona Cawthorne presented an original poem called “Dear Black Woman”. Sydney Hughes took us to church with an evangelical number called “I know where I was.” McKinley Pate.
