The founder of the taxis of Phoenix and the minibuses died at home on Thursday, January 30th.

He was a man well known to many in the community, launching the taxi company – which since then became one of the largest in the local zone – in 1998.

Russell will run the business alone while his daughter Stephanie Rowland and his son Alasdair became ill when he became ill a few years ago.

The couple moved quickly to honor their father after his sad pass last week with a statement made through the company’s social media page.

He reads: “Our father taught us the power of the community and the importance of hard work.

“It is our responsibility to continue his inheritance, as the values ​​he breathed into us; kindness, compassion and understanding.

“He was a good-natured and generous man with an unwavering positive perspective, which would not only be very missed by his family and friends, but also by the city and the wider community he loved and supported.”

Many others also moved to pay tribute and to offer condolences after hearing the news.

One man said, “He was a real gentleman and always had time to talk to you, no matter what was happening.

“He will be so missed that he is sure, but his wonderful family will keep his memory alive and continue to make him proud.”

Another added: “The man was a legend and what he did for this local community will never be fully recognized. He will be sadly missed by so many.”

While Russell’s influence extends beyond his business endeavors, Irvine’s man also chairman of the Eglinton FC football club.

The Kilvinning -based country also gave respect after his death.

The club statement says: “Russell became part of the Eglinton family as a major sponsor through his Phoenix taxis and soon became chairman in September 2023.

“Our thoughts come out to Russell’s wife, his children and the whole family.

“The club will give our respect to our next home game on Saturday, February 15th.”
