Demand for new cars drops by 2.5% in January – Irvine Times

The industry of the manufacturers and engineer’s traders (SMMT) said 139 345 new vehicles in the UK were registered in January.

This was compared to 142 876 last month.

The fall is powered by a 15.3% decrease in supply of gasoline cars.

There was a 41.6% jump in the absorption of clean electric cars on the battery, which led to a market share of 21.3%.

According to a zero-emissions vehicle mandate (ZEV), at least 28% of new cars sold by any manufacturer in the UK this year must be zero emission, which usually means clean electric.

If you do not comply with the term or take advantage of flexibility – such as buying loans from competitive companies or making more sales in future years – it will lead to a requirement to pay the government of 15,000 British pounds to pollute a car sold above borders.

SMMT CEO Mike Hose said: “January numbers show that demand for EV is increasing, but is not fast enough to achieve current ambitions.

“Accessibility remains the main barrier to absorb, therefore the need for insurmountable measures to strengthen demand, not just manufacturers.

“Therefore, the application of the expensive car addition to Ved (excise duty of the vehicle) on electric vehicles is a wrong measure at the wrong time.

“Instead of punishing EV buyers, we need to take every step to encourage more drivers to switch, helping to achieve the goals of government, industry and public climate change.”

From April 1, EVS drivers will have to pay VED for the first time.

This will be 195 pounds a year for most affected people, but drivers of new electric cars with a list price of over 40,000 British pounds will be charged up to £ 620 a year due to the expensive car supplement.

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander hosts a meeting with large car manufacturers on Wednesday to discuss changes in ZEV’s term that may include facilitating non -compliant manufacturers to avoid fines.

There will also be talks to end the sales of new gasoline and diesel cars from 2030.
