Texas Guard given a border arrest of powers – Arkansas Online

Austin, Texas – the soldiers of the National Guard of Texas can arrest and detain people to enter the United States illegally from Mexico under an agreement with the Trump administration, which expands the role of the military in the implementation of immigration.

The new body is a change for the guard and the military as a whole, which is limited to a supporting role for the border patrol. Republican governor Greg Abat gave the members of the Texas Security Members to arrest migrants on charges of charges in 2021, but this order was limited to meetings of the private property of border land owners.

The Pact of Texas with US customs and border defense, signed on Friday, gives the security full power to investigate, arrest and retain migrants for their deportation purposes. Security members should work “only under the supervision of a CBP employee” and should be able to talk to an CBP employee on a mobile phone, radio or other similar technology, “the agreement said.

“This is enhancing the workforce for the security of the border,” Abbot said late on Sunday on the Social Media Platform X.

The military is limited to tasks such as monitoring and building barriers, adhering to the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878 in order to preserve the armed forces away from civil law enforcement. But the councilors close to President Donald Trump claim that there are legal grounds for summoning the military to combat drugs and mass migration.

Trump has already been interrupted by precursors with military deportation flights. He said he would use a center for detention in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, to hold tens of thousands of the “oldest criminal aliens”.

The Ministry of Defense placed 1,600 active duty troops in the US -Mexico border during the first week of Trump to service and had plans to send more. It says hundreds of more military members arrived on Monday in Guantanamo Bay.

Democratic State Representative Jean Wu said that the Texas agreement is doing the work of law enforcement agencies more difficult and dangerous, and that Abbot “continues to cause more hatred against an already horrified and vulnerable population.”

Matthew Hudak, who recently retired as deputy chief of the border patrol, noted that the state and federal authorities are already working in close cooperation.

“It doesn’t give (security) a blanket to stop people,” Hudak said. “This more than everything sends the announcement that federal and state agencies are working together to solve this problem.”

Since 2021, the Texas Guard has played a prominent role in the ABBOTT Operation Lone Star operation, which included a load of tens of thousands of migrants in the cities controlled by Democrats and the installation of a giant bundle in Rio Grande. Abbott often contradicts the Biden administration because of the implementation of immigration, historically the liability of the federal government.

Abbot defended the Texas border operations as a “suspension” between the federal performance during President Joe Biden’s administration.
