Teenager charged while 53-year-old man freed amid investigation into Killwinning ‘murder’ – Irvine Times

The 19-year-old man was one of two people arrested on Friday, October 25, in connection with the ongoing investigation into the incident by Police Scotland.

The other, a 53-year-old man, has now been released pending further inquiries – with the investigation still ongoing.

The pair were the second and third people arrested following the death of John Taylor, 44, in Kilwinning.

A 26-year-old man was arrested on Tuesday, October 22, before being charged and appearing at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court the following day.

Key O’Connor pleaded not guilty to murder and attempting to pervert the course of justice when he appeared alone in court.

After his appearance, he was taken for further examination and remand. He is due back in court in the coming days.

Mr Taylor was found with serious injuries outside his home on Pollock Crescent at around 1.55pm on Friday 18 October. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The day after his death, following a post-mortem, police confirmed they were investigating a homicide – saying they believed the incident was a “targeted attack”.

Police Scotland are still appealing for anyone who may have information about the incident to come forward.

A spokesman for the force said: “Detectives have set up a website which gives members of the public access to a form to send information directly to the major investigation team, which can be submitted anonymously.”

The portal is available at:

They added: “Alternatively, anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 1878 of 18 October 2024.”
