Laredo police respond to immigration concerns – KGNS

Laredo, Texas (KGNS) – Recent changes in immigration policies have triggered some concerns about people in the community, especially since they are victims of a crime.

The Larendo Police Department works to soothe unpleasant feelings for mass deportments, while promoting those who were victims of a crime to go out.

The department says that while employees have helped other agencies such as border patrol and immigration and customs (ICE) in the past, their purpose is to be an additional presence for community protection while these operations are being carried out.

However, if a person has committed a crime, the Larendo police will accuse that person and, depending on the status of their citizenship, then transfer them to the relevant agency.

Coordinator of the LPD Norma Garcia victim services program believes that a person’s citizenship status may prevent them from seeking help from law enforcement.

Mention: “Citizenship is something that the perpetrator usually uses to manipulate his victims, especially if he is a victim of domestic violence, lurking or trafficking in human beings. It is a great concern, but we want the victims to know that we are still here to help, we are still here, working for them and to help them in any way we can. “

Some victims of services may receive consultations, medical care and relocation services. In addition, the department reminds the public that its employees do not go out of their way to serve immigration.
