Lubbock just can’t seem to keep a bar open lately.
However, with this latest closure, the problem seems to have been much bigger than Lubbock.
World of Beer, located in Lubbock’s West End Mall, has quietly closed.
According to Everything Lubbock, the locks on the building have been changed and the number is no longer working.
This was not an entirely unforeseen event— back in August we reported that other places in the beer world closed in Texas and that Lubbock could also be on the chopping block.
That closing came just as Bodine’s Cocktail Parlor announced it would be open for just a few more weeks. Frosthouse closed suddenly earlier this month. And Mano Negra is forced to move locations soon.
Looks like you should make those memories while you can (and keep local when you can).
My family made many happy memories at Lubbock’s World of Beer, which was a Lubbock owned franchise. We used to gather there to watch The Lubbock Laugh Off with a packed house of other comedy fans.
My aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who could have been family filled the largest tables and enjoyed several (more like several) delicious drinks. It was a good time.
I am grateful for the time we had there and sad to see the place go.
However, Lubbock is a place full of gathering opportunities – be it a bar, a restaurant, or a hybrid of the two.
Good luck to the WOB staff in opening a great new gig and we hope the best for the owners in their new adventures.
