18-year-old killed man for $2,000, Baton Rouge police say – The Advocate

An 18-year-old man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a man in what is believed to be a $2,000 murder-for-hire, Baton Rouge police said.

The victim, Johnny Ray Green, 44, was shot Sept. 13 in the 3500 block of Brady Street, police said.

The suspect, Anthony Torreganohayes, was arrested Thursday and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Jail on charges of first-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon, police said in a news release.

A Crime Stoppers tip led to the arrest, police said.

Homicide detectives believe Green had just arrived at his residence when Torreganohayes fired multiple shots at him.

Witnesses told police they saw a man fleeing the scene on a bicycle and that he was armed with a shotgun, the affidavit said.

During the investigation, a witness told police that Torreganohayes told her he shot the victim in exchange for $2,000 in cash. When she asked him why, Torreganohayes told her it was because he was “struggling.”

Baton Rouge police said the suspect was arrested on an unrelated charge earlier in October. During that investigation, Toreganohayes told officers he owned the rifle later used in the fatal shooting of Green.
