Ncinnovation calls the director of Wilmington Hub – UNCW News

Scott Davis ’17, 18m has been named Ncinnovation Hub Director for Wilmington and the Southeast North Carolina region. Ncinnovation recently expanded its headquarters from four system institutions to UNC to seven, including UNC Wilmington. Davis will reside in the UNCW (OIC) innovation and commercialization service.

“The creation of a Hub of Ncinnovation and the appointment of a Director at UNCW highlights the commitment of our university to promote economic growth and stimulate impactful research that relates to the challenges in the real world in our region and throughout the country. I look forward to the positive impact that Scott Davis’s leadership will have on the new center, our campus and the wider community for research and innovation in North Carolina, “said UNCW provision James J. Winebrakee.

Davis, entrepreneur and advisor to startup companies, has deep roots and relationships in the Big Wilmington area and has many years of experience in the process of commercialization of research.

“Currently, Unc Wilmington researchers are working on projects that can affect the real world,” Davis said. “As a city of UNCW, I am excited to help accelerate this work through the university sequence for research and development, to the extent that it can attract interest in the private sector.”

Davis won a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Business Administration (’17, ’18 m) by UNCW. In addition to its previous role in OIC as a technology transfer coordinator, Davis also advised starting and risky resources on the east coast and the Wilmington region.

NCINNOVATION is a non -profit organization that provides the financing of grants and other support to the UNC system researchers working on discoveries that have a practical application and a commercial promise. Ncinnovation last year approved its first leaf of grants for research, including a project in UNCW to develop a universal and longer-lasting flu vaccine, led by Ying Wang, Associate Professor of Chemistry.

“Researchers at UNC Wilmington are working on innovative discoveries to solve real -life problems here in North Carolina,” says Michelle Bolas, Chief Innovation Director of Ncinnovation and Executive Vice President. “Scott will work daily with researchers, university administrators and industry in support of applied university research that have a commercial promise. This pipeline from the Industry University has been the basis of US technological powers for decades. ”
