An extension of the export channels of the port of Colombia-Laredo – MEXICONOW – has been opened

Expansion of export channels opened at Port of Columbia-Laredo

NUEVO LEON – As part of the modernization works carried out at the port of Colombia-Laredo, the expansion of the export lanes was inaugurated.

With this, the lanes for freight and tourist flow in the direction of Texas and the USA will increase from three to five, which also implies a complete reconstruction of the roadway, built from scratch in hydroconcrete.

“This region is economically the most powerful and it was essential for Nuevo Leon to create this cluster and for us to be more and more connected to Texas, and what better than our small 9-kilometer customs, since now there are roads and new lanes for trade to continue,” stressed Nuevo Leon Governor Samuel Garcia.

Among other things, the works include the expansion of pass-through booths from 7 to 13; the installation of a new civilian force base, which increases from 35 to 350 elements on duty 24 hours a day.

In addition, the construction of entrance-exit arches was carried out, visually renewing the accesses to the port; also completed the creation of the Integral Attention Module for Paisano, as well as the construction of a Residential Complex for employees of companies installed in the port.

“Today, we have more than 1,000 police officers guarding the border between Nuevo Leon and Texas, making it the safest customs port in all of Mexico. That’s why by having these roads, this security, we’re the only customs office that allows the United States to do joint inspections. “Instead of stopping twice, an inspection by the Mexican authorities and an inspection by the US authorities, the Mexican authorities go through the Laredo side and together in five minutes they inspect you and take you out,” García Sepúlveda pointed out.

In particular, the renovation of the 01 North or Monterrey-Colombia highway and the construction of the La Gloria Colombia highway allowed cross-border crossings to rise from about 3,200 per day to the current figure of more than 6,500, according to the government of Nuevo León.

With this comprehensive modernization of customs and the opening of La Gloria-Colombia, these points are expected to triple in the next few years.

Marco Antonio González Valdes, Secretary of Regional and Agricultural Development of Nuevo León, indicated that with this project the border went from being underutilized to the fastest and safest in Mexico.

“By 2030, this customs must provide 18,000 crossings per day to consolidate our position as the most important cross-border logistics city in Mexico and the United States,” said Gonzalez.

The opening was attended by Juan Manuel Morton Gonzalez, Municipal President of Anahuac; Juan Carlos Mendoza, Consul General of Mexico in Laredo, Texas; as well as Emmanuel Loo, Undersecretary for Investments of Nuevo Leon.
