With six signed colleges, expectations remain high for Santa Fe’s Catholic baseball in 2025.

Lakeland – Six Santa Fe adults have signed to play baseball at college, including five last week, which is thought to be the largest in one class in Santa Fe. This may set high expectations in the team, but as the pre -season games start this week, expectations were already high for Crimson Hawks.

The five players who signed last week were DJ Flores, Michael Welling, Angel Andujar (Montreat), Hudson Link (Montreat) and Marvin Montenegro (Polk State). They join Easton Beach, who signed with South Florida last fall.

Probably a seventh player who would sign, Gavin Stedman, has transferred to Mulberry, but even without Sedman, Santa Fe Catholic has high goals after it has been released from season 22-6.

“We have set some expectations for ourselves after last season,” said Catholic Fa David Saliba coach. “We defend the district champion, we lost in (regional semifinals) late from running and they were all youth. So we hope that this year, that we have learned a few things, it has become a little better, a little older and everything. This is a good group of children. They are here because they were freshmen, everyone growing up and working hard and playing together. They are a pleasure to train, so this is a little disadvantage of some of the old times. “

All six players were big participants last season. Flores was killed .469 with three household tracks and 27 RBI; Welling Batted .364 with 17 RBI; Andujar beats .342 with 27 RBI; A link stuck .267; Montenegro killed .468 with 14 extra-base hits and 27 RBI; And the beach was killed .495 with 12 extra-base hits.

“Several of them, you knew immediately (about the potential of college),” Saliba said. “Several of them worked very hard. I thought they could get into something and they turned. Hudson passed long roads, but he was higher (player), a little gang. The bigger children take a little longer to bring all this together, but it comes long roads. The beach and Marvin have been exceptional since they walked. They started as freshmen, so they were exceptional since they went to the campus. DJ did a good job and we’re still quite young. This is a good group. They came in with some talent. They worked hard. They became bigger, stronger and became quite good ball players. “

The composition will remain deep, but Saliba will restore its staff. Stoman and Jacob Books, who finished, combined to go 16-3 with ERA about 1.50.

“We are losing a depth of piking, but we have Jameson McGuire, who is junior and as good as anyone in the county,” Saliba said. “He and Welling will anchor the picing. We lose Stedman, but Welling had some hand problems last year, so he didn’t throw himself, so we returned it this year. So hopefully this will be a compromise and we have some young children who come ready to leave. The beach can flow. We didn’t have to use it so much, but it can be directed. It’s just, it’s the best short stop in the area. “

The regular season begins next week (February 10th), which is a week earlier because of the change in the post season, where regional games are the best of two.
