Thehe SC house and Senate They both knock in lunchS

As we wrote above, this week we don’t expect a lot of floor to the floor (although the Senate has to give a third, perfect vote on K-12 voucher Bill and Wednesday the legislature will selects judges.)

What do we look at on Tuesday: More special, House Republican CoachS They are told that the Cause plans to meet after a session to discuss problems with a cause and eat lunch, but also to check the pulse of a cause when it comes to Republican Cashier Curtis Loftisone of the three employees in the center of $ 1.8 billion accounting ErroR which partly led to the resignation of two other: former controller Richard Extrom and a former state auditor George KennedyS Lofthis has rejected the calls to resign, but legislators – in both chambers – are becoming more and more derified by the entire test, as the state remains under a federal investigation.

EV Carmaker receives state support for a change in state legislation

A few years ago a battle between a National winemaker and Wholesalers boiled in the state home, which eventually led to a A change in state legislation So that the company can open separate tasting rooms in South Carolina.

So for the purposes of this post, consider level system – but carsS

Acting law no resolve Car manufacturers In order to sell vehicles directly to customers so that in this case southern Carolini, state legislation dictates that the purchase of a car must be carried out through a licensed third party dealerS

This hides the problem for a company like EV Carmaker Scout Motorswhich received millions of dollars state stimuli and build a fairly massive plant in Blythewood that the company says it will boast of some 4000 workers (which they say does not include jobs for suppliers.) They are already hiring hundreds of people between the construction site and the headquarters of the Bull Street SC company.

Scout does not expect the first cars to be expelled from the mounting line to 2027S

But until then, the company has begun an aggressive campaign to change state law.

“This is an antique archaic regulation that tells consumers how to buy cars and modernize it. This allows consumers to really shop and buy the way they want in South Carolina,” ” Cody tackerVice President of Growth at Scout, SC Public Radio told SC Public Radio.

And on Monday, they were supported to change the law from one of the main supporters of the company, which has the advantage of the bully pulpit: Governor Henry McMasterS

A bill – Z. 3777, Created the “Freedom of Consumers Law of South Carolina” – In order to change the state law has been submitted by Reporter Mark SmithR-Berkeley. The proposal does not name a specific company, so it would affect other car manufacturers – not just scout engines.

And so far the bilateral proposal has Six CosressesS

This is not the first time a car manufacturer has tried to Direct sales of EVS

Tesla tried a few years ago, but there was no bonus to build a massive plant in Midlands (where the governor refers), so the legislation has never taken off.

McMaster said he had talked to SC Cars AssociationA powerful lobby in the country that says it represents some 281 franchise car dealers that leads to more than $ 15 billion in sales and more than 33,000 jobs.

Its website directs readers to the Direct Sales and EV page: myths and facts, which partly claims that direct sales will “reduce competition and potentially raise prices.”

We asked directly mcmaster: Would you sign the EV direct sales account if it crossed your desk?

“Yes, I would,” he said.

SC Senate

Freshman Spotlight: Tiny Mic Edition

Have 32 New legislators in General meetingS

The house of the house includes 19 new facesS The Senate has 13S

It’s time to get to know them so welcome to our Freshman Where we introduce a new member of their chamber every day. (We edit for clarity.)

Next: Condition Rep. Blake Sandershouse District 9 in Anderson County.

What place/restaurant in your area would you recommend to visitors: I always recommend everywhere locally, if possible at all. I love our local cafes, and in the city of West Pelzer, where I served as mayor for two terms, I would recommend Cotton Duck Cafe.

What surprised you most in Statehouse: How useful they all really are, whether it is staff, whether it is other selected employees. Regardless of the party or cause, they were all extremely useful.

How do you feel likely to have the most guilty mustache in the legislature: I know there are many mustache envy among my colleagues. I had it for 12 years and initially grew it up as a joke. And 12 years later, I am known as the mustache man.

What is the last TV show you watched: Seinfeld. I love good humor and I love humor for nothing.

Clemson Tigers or USC Gamecocks: My blood works orange. Go tigers!
