Univ. on the Iowa Homecoming Parade route, street closure information – KCRG

Iowa City, Iowa (KCRG) – This weekend is homecoming weekend for Hawkeye students, fans and alumni.

The University of Iowa’s annual homecoming parade kicks off Friday at 5:45 p.m

It begins at the intersection of Washington and Gilbert streets.

It then heads west on Washington Street before turning north on Clinton Street.

It then heads east on Jefferson Street, south on Dubuque Street and east on Iowa Avenue.

The parade will end where Iowa Avenue intersects with Gilbert Street.

STREET CLOSURES:

The following streets close at 4pm on Friday:

  • Van Buren Street, between Jefferson and Burlington
  • Johnson Street, between Jefferson and Burlington
  • College Street, between Van Buren and Dodge
  • Washington Street, between Gilbert and Dodge
  • Iowa Avenue, between Gilbert and Dodge
  • Jefferson Street, between Gilbert and Dodge

The following streets close at 4.30pm on Friday:

  • Clinton Street, between Market and College
  • Dubuque Street, between Jefferson and Washington
  • Washington Street, between Clinton and Gilbert
  • Iowa Avenue, between Clinton and Gilbert

The following streets close at 5.30pm on Friday:

  • Gilbert Street, between Market and College
  • Jefferson Street, between Madison and Gilbert

Iowa City police say most streets will reopen immediately after the parade around 8 p.m., but Clinton Street, between Washington and Jefferson, and Iowa Avenue, between Clinton and Dubuque Street, will remain closed for the Homecoming Coronation and the Pentacrest concert .

PARKING EFFECTS:

Parking restrictions will be posted along the parade route. All vehicles parked in these areas will be towed.

Police say “No Parking” signs will be posted along the route and inside the staging area. Some of these signs will be posted as early as noon, while others will be posted at 1 p.m. or later.

If a vehicle is towed, the owner will need to come to the Iowa City Police Department, located at 410 E. Washington Street, with identification and pay the parking fines.

PARKING RAMPS AFFECTED:

The Tower Place parking ramp located at 335 Iowa Avenue will close at 5:00 p.m.

The university says vehicles will have to exit the parking ramp by 5 p.m. or risk remaining inside the ramp until the end of the parade.

All other city parking ramps will be open during the parade.
