McMaster calls on legislators to review the requirements for work licenses – WLTX.com

Governor Henry McMaster calls on state legislators to review and reduce the licensing requirements for hundreds of professions in South Carolina.

In his state of the state last week, McMaster called for changes to the state licensing system, which he believes creates unnecessary barriers when entering the labor force.

“There are regulations that slow things down and we have to remove them,” McMaster said.

South Carolina has more than 40 licensing tips regulating a wide range of professions, including barbers, pharmacists, social workers, cosmetologists, performers and brokers. McMaster said the large number of tips and provisions make the licensing process complex and busy.

Legislators determine which jobs should be regulated and determine the requirements for them while licensing advice apply these standards, according to the Ministry of Labor, License and Provisions

“We have to go with a fine line,” said reporter Geramin Johnson, D-Richland. “I think things that are outdated, we have to review and see if they are actually necessary, but we also have to be sure that we keep the most important parts of these provisions and make sure they apply in situations of 2025 ”

Johnson is a member of the Committee on Labor, Trade and Industry of the Home. A Bill in the Commission, currently submitted by Senator Tom Davis, will reduce small business provisions by 25%.

McMaster admitted that some professions require strict provisions, but said others did not.

“Please do a formal survey to see what provisions and committees exist there that have no vital purpose or perhaps even a serious goal,” McMaster said. “Some of them, of course, do it, but others do not seem to have much activity.”
