Tallahassee, FL – on January 28, about 40 members of the Talahassi Community Action Community (TCAC) held an emergency rally at the Leon County Court of Justice to request the city and the county to stop arrest and detention of unmanagement members of the Community. This emergency action took place the day after numerous confirmed ice observations in Talahasi, as well as raids in the surrounding cities.

These raids come among the increase of Trump in anti -immigrant rhetoric and the promise of governor Ron Ron Ron of state repression of undocumented immigrants. These increased attacks against Talahassi immigrants emphasize the city’s need for community control over police just weeks after the review of the police review in citizens.

Aidan Bennett, a member of TCAC, opened the rally. He said that “Talahasi has noticed an alarming increase in the presence and repression of the police while the city has removed all paths for people to hold them responsible. If the city, the state and the federal police are allowed to militarize our communities and attack immigrants, we must organize ourselves against this repression. “

Regina Joseph of the Freedom Road socialist organization said: “Donald Trump and billionaires want to believe that immigrants are our enemy and cause economic tension to America. We reject these false claims. Immigrants are our neighbors and friends. They are just like anyone else: people who want to earn a living and secure their families. Together, immigrants and all suppressed people can put an end to this evil system that harms us all of us. “

About 15 of the ranists stayed late at night, around 10:00 pm to publicly comment on the Leon County Commission, which denied attacks against immigrants and wanted the city to take action. TCAC and the other organizations involved in this action gathered around the slogan: make Talahasi in a sanctuary. “Their collective search was to manage the committees to use their power over local police departments to deprirrite the arrest and detention of the residents of our community, especially after these new efforts to deportation.

The mobilization was supported by Talahassi students for a democratic society, the socialist organization Freedom Road, Tallahassee Food, not bombs and Kabataan Alliance.
