TPC Scottsdale: The course that hosts the biggest Golf Party – Hypebeast

In a world of Upstart Professional Tours, closed golf and celebrities, there is only one original hole in the stadium: 16th in TPC Scottsdale. The Phoenix tournament, which falls annually at the Super Bowl Weekend, is somehow becoming bigger (and stronger) every year. Although other tournaments have tried to recreate the formula, the atmosphere on Sunday in the Sonoran Desert cannot be compared.

Last year, however, it may have reached a rolling point. The tournament was struck by overcrowding, heclming and uneducated fans and with a presence that already exceeds any other PGA Tour, this time around the organizers, they were approaching things with fresh perspectives. “This is the first year in which the focus is on improving the tournament better than not more,” says General Manager Brad Williams.

The Open Waste Management Phoenix comes and goes in a week, but TPC Scottsdale remains an attraction (most of all) throughout the year. One of the things that make golf unique is that professionals and everyday people share the emblematic stages of the game, aAnd the success of the open people has turned the TPC Scottsdale into a destination for enthusiasts, especially during the lead to the tournament. The PGA Tour owns and manages a property has two golf courses, the stadium and the champions, as well as the scattered 750 rooms Fairmont Scottsdale Princess. Most recently, the tour has partnered with Sports Betting App DraftKings to strengthen its host offices on the spot with a leading sports book. This is a 2,700 square foot begemot from a sports bar, ready to meet crowds of fans that spill out of exits during Open Phoenix’s Open through Hayden Road. In anticipation of fire pits, courtyard, VIP cubs and TVs anywhere you look.

We met with Brad Williams before the start of the tournament to find out how the TPC Scottsdale has become one of the most sought after winter destinations for both hardcore and beginner golfers.

Can you describe the golf course design and what makes it unique?

You know, this is a really fun golf course. This is not a golf course that beats you. It’s not super demanding. It is more difficult during this time of year, because the rough starts to get longer. But in terms of layout, I would say that it is not difficult, it is not too demanding. It’s a desert golf course, but all our deserts are somewhat produced, making them much more playing.

If you had to go somewhere a little smaller from here, these deserts are much healthier. More lost balls, more unable lies. For your bigger part, if you hit it off the line, you will probably find it unless you go into the water.

What is the natural adjustment of the course and how does it affect the play experience?

We do not have some of the natural landscapes that Greyhawk or Troon North has. They are much more in the desert and have more change of elevation. So we go back to great conditions, good service, really good amenities and the opportunity to play where professionals play.

If you are from a private club in New York and are used to a really peaceful, peaceful golf experience and you are coming here, expecting this, you may be disappointed. We have some guests who will comment on this in a negative way, but most of our guests love and they understand that there will probably be some disturbances and noise.

“16 did not receive it in a year. It was a really gradual thing that came to the point where it was. “

Party holes are becoming very popular in golf these days. How did the 16th here in TPC Scottsdale?

I think it’s really hard to create this inorganic. 16 did not receive it for a year. It was a really gradual thing that came to the point. It’s funny, looking back at the old photos and I have one from the mid-90s, there are tents on the right side of the hole, which is mostly just a small beer garden S And then everything else was sitting.

My first tournament here was in 2001. It was the first year when the players went through a tunnel to reach 16 Tee. Now they go through a tunnel, so if you are walking to the triple box, you had a little horseshoe of whitening and that was. And then I returned 12 years later and the whole thing is more or less closed and we built the third level around. So over the years there are few additions to do what it is. I don’t think you can suddenly decide “We’ll have a hole in which we put a stadium” and build it.

Golfertainment has become a popular way to modernize the game. Any improvements planned for the future?

One thing we are definitely looking at is to install either Toptracer or Trackman in the driving range in the championship course. We are not there yet, but we hope to have a covered area and expand the placement of green to make it much more than an entertainment space and open at night. We have some challenges to be open at night with lighting, because the Airport in Scottsdale is literally right on the other side of the street. So height is a problem, as is the lights.

We also had the thought, although we did not persecute it, we would be glad to have lights on the last three holes from the stadium course. The game of 16, 17 and 18 under the lights would be really, really cool. And frankly, from a business point of view, a whole new stream of revenue.
