TEMPE, Ariz. — Tempe police say a juvenile has been charged after he fled from officers during a traffic stop and crashed early Friday morning.
The vehicle was reportedly seen “driving at a high rate of speed and making dangerous maneuvers” before officers attempted to stop it. The driver then reportedly fled the stop, so officers began chasing the vehicle.
The pursuit was later called off near Loop 202 and Scottsdale Road.
Officers determined the vehicle had crashed into a utility pole at the Scottsdale Road exit. The car caught fire and flames engulfed nearby utility lines.
The driver, who is a juvenile, was extricated from the car and taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
Police say once the driver is released from the hospital, he will face various charges.
