MADISON, Ala. (WAFF) – Madison residents are not too happy about the conditions in both Dublin and Palmer Parks.
Criticism of the parks’ sports facilities has swelled online in the past week.
Parents like Tony Aspie admit the city has its hands full with several business and infrastructure projects that require much more time and money.
But that doesn’t mean parks should be neglected.
“There is definitely room for improvement. The field is very rough, full of weeds, tripping hazards, ditches and holes and things that the girls could potentially injure themselves in,” she said.
The criticism prompted Madison Mayor Paul Finley to release a statement this weekend:
Derek Breton, another parent, understands that parks probably aren’t a top priority for the city, so he’s not holding his breath for quick changes.
“Politicians a lot of times say things to try to reassure the public, but there’s not always a follow-up,” he said. “I remember my daughter was on the swim team and there was talk of Madison having some kind of aquatic center like the one they have in Huntsville, and there were even blueprints that never materialized, so maybe, maybe no. Maybe they will do something about football, but maybe not.”
