Alex Gilbert’s “buzz to continue” as ex -ireland U21 Star joins the league one side – the Irish sun

Ex-Heire Under-21 International Alex Gilbert joined Charlton on a loan.

The attacking midfielder will spend the rest of the season with the pursuers of the promotion in League 1, finding fringe in Middlesbrough.

The 23 -year -old Gilbert said, “I’m buzzing to do it at last and finally be here. I am looking forward to Saturday.

“Charlton is obviously a big club and what I really heard at the stadium NiceSo I look forward to playing in front of all fans. “

Gilbert scored a winner of stopping Boro against Hill City of New Year, but it was one of only the seven appearances in this term, all of them are substitutes.

Charlton’s head Nathan Jones said, “We were looking to add more quality to the last third and Alex provides this.

“He comes with a decent genealogy, playing in a very good country of the championship this season, which trusts us to improve its development.

“We don’t really like to borrow players, but when the opportunity comes up to add true quality like this, you have to take it.”

Born in Birmingham went through the West Brom ranks before joining Brentford in September 2020.

But he only played twice for the first team of bees – with both matches in the FA Cup – and also spent a loan with Swindon Town before joining Boro in Summer Since 2023

Previously limited to a level of under 19, he made six appearances for Ireland Under 21 years in 2021
