Gabrielle Hanlon, an inpatient behavioral health registered nurse at SSM Health St. Agnes, recently received a $1,000 nursing scholarship for continuing education, which is sponsored in part by Madison Emergency Physicians (MEP).
The St. Mary’s Nursing Scholarship Agnes Hospital/MEP, offered through the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation, is given to Hanlon for academic achievement, commitment to the community and demonstrating an active interest in pursuing a career in health care.
Recognizing the value of nurses as the medical partners of SSM Health St. Agnes Hospital, Madison Emergency Physicians established this endowment fund to support those pursuing bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing or certification in emergency nursing (CEN).
Hanlon attends the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Nursing and is currently in their Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. She is currently completing the third of her fourth year to become a DNP-prepared psychiatric nurse practitioner.
“This scholarship allowed me to prioritize my education and ease the financial burden,” according to Hanlon. “Last year I reduced my hours to part-time to meet my clinical requirements throughout the week.
“I am fortunate to work in an organization that is flexible with a changing schedule and that provides scholarship opportunities like this,” Hanlon adds. “I am grateful for the support of the Agnesian HealthCare Foundation and MEP, as my educational pursuits are only possible through the generosity of such organizations. I hope that one day I can contribute to an organization in a similar way, as there is a great need for greater access to high-quality psychiatric care.”
