Lee Geum-Min scored an early winner for Birmingham City WFC with a 1-0 win over Sunderland on Sunday, maintaining the club’s place at the Barclays Women’s Top Championship.

Lee, who joined Birmingham in an undisclosed deal in September, scored in the seventh minute of the clash at the Sunderland Stadium in Sunderland, England, taking advantage of mixing in the back line of Sunderland to shoot home.

Visitors started strongly and were rewarded when Simone Magil won the ball from Sunderland goalkeeper Demi Lambourne before striking it to Lee, who raised his shot over the defenders and the back of the net.

Sunderland almost equalizes the score with a shot from his best goal scorer Eleanor Dale, but Birmingham goalkeeper Lucy Thomas stood strong and denied the attacker, but the resulting clash between the couple forced them both off the pitch.

The second half started quietly, as none of the countries created clear opportunities. The hosts approached the Libby Makines, whose shot was saved by Olivia Pipkovska during their debut in the League. Then a quick counter saw Lee miss a chance to double his plane before Tegan McGowan’s substitute was refused Lambourne.

After the disappointment of the 3-1 loss against Bristol City, the 1-0 victory was enough to provide important three points for Birmingham, keeping the club clearly at the top of the table with 26 points.

Birmingham’s fifth victory in a row holds them in front of London City Lionis with 25 points and Bristol City with 23.

Lee’s 30 -year -old moved to Birmingham after 93 appearances for Brighton, where he scored 13 goals. She began her career in England with Manchester City in 2019, but saw a little time to play with the club.

Its move pushed the total number of Korean players in the club to four, which made it a club with the most Korean players in Europe.

Three of these players are regular pictures of the women’s national team, the midfielder of veteran Chow Yu-Ri, who started the match with Lee and Cho Son on the bench. Birmingham is also home to midfielder Pike Seung-ho.

League leaders will try to keep their first place in their next game against Sheffield United at home on Sunday.
