Petrovic shines in Houston as Wave also ready for Birmingham – Tulane University Athletics

– At Tulane Luka Petrovicthe No. 10 seed at the AAC Fall Championships in his main draw singles, defeated seventh-seeded Harry Rock of Memphis 6-4, 6-2 to handle the Green Wave on Thursday in Houston.

Petrovic will now play the No. 2 seed in the bracket, Thiago Torres of UTSA on Friday at 1:30 pm in the quarterfinals. Doubles partner and teammate of Petrovic Luke Hoeymans fell 6-3, 6-4 to Temple’s Adam Cressina in his first-round match. Hoeijmans now moves on to the quarterfinals to face UAB’s Juan Pablo Valdez of UAB at 2:30 p.m. on Friday.

Hoeymans and Petrovic have work to do earlier in the day on Friday, as the No. 3 seeds in the doubles draw are scheduled to face Tulsa’s Alex Okonkwo and Timothy Carlson Seger at 10 a.m. in the quarterfinals.

The US Individual Championships will be held for the first time in 2024, as the conference determines the men’s and women’s singles and doubles champions. The singles and doubles champions will represent the American Athletic Conference at the ITA Conference Masters Championships Nov. 7-10 in Rome, Georgia.

Two singles players and one doubles team from each of the 11 men’s teams and 13 women’s teams in the American Athletic Conference will compete for the individual titles.

Tulane will also send five players (Charlie Burdell, Asaph Friedler, Maxim Kalinin, Stephen Rice and Vincent Wall) at the BCC Invitational in Birmingham this weekend, where they will also compete in singles and doubles. Also in the field will be players from Belmont, Jacksonville State, Kennesaw State, Louisiana, North Alabama, host Samford, Southern Miss and UAB.

Both the singles and doubles events will be split into three draws (blue, red and bulldog) with a reverse draw for each. Friday’s singles matches at Tulane are as follows:

The drawing of pairs will begin on Saturday at 9am
